Snow Language

The salt spackle splatter
of plow truck dialect

marks our caravan,
frost-hardened
from the industrial grime
of the cold

this underworld of harsh
allows our cozy fireplaces,
our gingerbread

the cruel season
also powers the firebrand sunset,
gives rest and time for comfort,
readies the earth for blooming

but first

delivers the pain
to make us stronger
with the sting of chapped skin
and brown dim
of night-sky afternoons

let this freeze
press us into its service
as we rush headlong into our winters
grinding through hard truths
and ready for Spring.

The Stalking Moon

the heavenly body of record
lest you forget
crushes petty complaint
beneath its rocky seas
and pulls the tides
to cool work-weary feet

the stalking moon
sees you home
knowing twinkle in the sky

it lets you know
in the worst of sorrow
that there is still
another tomorrow

By the Guiding Light of the Ozone Sky

on a city street
like a secret rendezvous
the velvet sky
calls to us,
its glow
as its calling card
and victory sign
for us alone

we will overcome
profane existence
and be that speed healer,
the secrecy dealer, soldier
and saver of savaged souls,
the harbinger of doom
for doubt,
assassin
of false virtue
and all else
that poisons dreams

we pledge
before this dawn sky
to be life’s avenger,
the reckoning to come,
to redeem the mad nomads
and beaten down dreamers
forever

Cloud Language

spy the sultry dusk
billows,
an intimate ceiling
burning paths
for living dreams

thank with a knowing wink
that cloud cover,
letting us hunt
in that first light
without a burning glare

eyes wide to drink it in,
that beauty that makes us mad
and forever fleeting,
made with water in air

Winter Thrives

let it pain us to the bones
the wind like splinters
that fires the soul
solid strength
piling higher than snow

savor the chilled air
the frost breath
that finds you there
to chase the skies
to fight, to dare

the hard, the cold
is winter’s great flower
breathe it deep
to gather power
